THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year A

Alternate First Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6

A reading from the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians.

Sisters and brothers, you do not need me to write you about specific times and eras; you know very well that the Day of God is coming like a thief in the night.  Just when people are saying, “Peace and security,” ruin will fall on them with the suddenness of labor pains, and there will be no escape.  You are not in the dark, though.  The Day of God will not catch you like a thief.  No, all of you are children of light, and children of the day.  We belong neither to darkness nor to night.  So let us not be asleep as others are, let us be awake and sober!

The Word of God recorded in the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians.
