TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year B

First Reading: Isaiah 50:4-9

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.

Our God has given me a well-trained tongue

that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.

Morning after morning, God awakens me,
to hear as disciples do.

God opens my ears;

I was not disobedient,
I did not turn back;

I gave my back to those who beat me,

my cheeks to those who humiliated me;
I did not hide my face

from insult and spitting.

The Most High helps me,

therefore I am not dishonored;
therefore I have set my face firm,
I know I will not be put to shame;

my vindicator is near at hand.

Who would oppose me?

Let that person do it face to face.

Who will dispute my right?

Let them confront me.

See, God is my help;

who will prove me wrong?

They will all go to pieces

like a garment devoured by moths.

The Word of God recorded in the book of the prophet Isaiah.

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — Year B

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 116

R: I walk before You, Adonai, in the land of the living.

I love You, Adonai, because You have heard

my voice and my supplications.

Because You have inclined Your ear to me,

therefore, I will call on You as long as I live.

R: I walk before You, Adonai, in the land of the living.

The cords of death encompassed me,

the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;

I suffered sorrow and anguish.

Then I called on Your name, Adonai.

Oh Adonai, I beseech You, save my life!

R: I walk before You, Adonai, in the land of the living.

Gracious are You, Adonai, and righteous,

You are full of compassion.

You protect the simplehearted;

when I was brought low, You saved me.

R: I walk before You, Adonai, in the land of the living.

For You, Adonai, have delivered my soul from death,

my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling.

I walk before You, Adonai,

in the land of the living.

R: I walk before You, Adonai, in the land of the living.
