THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER — Year C
First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40-41
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
The high priest began the interrogation of the apostles in this way: “We gave you strict orders not to teach about that name, yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us responsible for that man’s blood.” To this, Peter and the apostles replied: “Better for us to obey God than people! The God of our ancestors has raised Jesus whom you put to death, hanging on a tree. This One who has been exalted at God’s right hand as ruler and savior is to bring repentance
to Israel and the forgiveness of sins. We testify to this. So too does the Holy Spirit, who has been given to those who obey God.”
The Sanhedrin ordered the apostles not to speak again about the
name of Jesus, and afterward dismissed them. The apostles, for their part, left the Sanhedrin full of joy that they had been judged worthy of ill-treatment for the sake of the Name.
The Word of God recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.
