THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT — Year C

*Alternate* First Reading: Jean Vanier reflection/span>

If the Word became flesh
and lived among the poor, the lowly, and the broken;
if he shared our common humanity
made up of all the mud and dirt and pain of existence,
it was in order to share all his tenderness
with this broken humanity of ours.

He came to draw his followers
along this downward path
to be with the poor, the lame, the crippled, and the blind
to serve them
and to reveal to them their real worth and beauty:
that they are the tabernacle of God,
the light of the world,
the salt of the earth, loved by the Father.

He wanted to reveal to his followers that the powerless are incredible
teachers and revealers of God.

A reflection from Jean Vanier.
