SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER — Year C

Gospel: John 14:23-29

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.

Jesus said to the disciples:

“If you love me, you will hold to my words,

and God who sent me will love you;

we will come to God

and there we will make our home together.

If you do not love me, you will not hold to my words.

Yet my word is not my own;

it comes from the One who has sent me.

I have said these things while still with you;

The One who sent me will send in my name

the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit,

who will instruct you in everything,

and remind you of all that I told you.

Peace I bequeath to you,

my own peace I give you,

a peace the world cannot give, this is my gift to you.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

You have heard me say,

‘I go away for awhile, and I come back to you.’

If you truly loved me,

you would rejoice to have me go to the One who sent me,

who is greater than I.

I tell you this now, before it takes place,

so that when it takes place, you may believe.”
