You don’t have to look far to see hunger; it’s right here in Iowa. It is a staggering problem – not just in developing countries, but here at home and across the nation.
Every 10 seconds a child dies of hunger-related issues.

To help support our Iowa-based meals distribution partners, Meals from the Heartland will host a focused day of service on January 17, 2022 (Martin Luther King Day). Our goal is to package and distribute 150,000 life-saving Taco Mac meals to our local food pantries in Dallas and Polk County.

Meals from the Heartland does not receive government funding. We need an additional $5,000 to package these meals on MLK Day. Thank you, DMIEC, for making a difference to help feed starving children and families. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Behrends, Director of Development at 515-577-4853 or at lisa.behrends@mealsfromtheheartland.org .  For more information, please visit the Meals from the Heartland website

Checks can be written either to “Meals from the Heartland” or “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.

We would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC: P.O. Box 30065, Des Moines, IA 50310
If you mail your check directly to the organization, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount, if you feel comfortable, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations.
