The proceeds from our First Sunday collection will benefit Care Development Organization Nepal (“CDO”), a non-governmental, nonprofit organization working at the grass roots level in the countryside of Nepal.

CDO has been serving the poor and underprivileged, with special focus on women and children, since 2005, with a USA 501c3 established in 2015. CDO’s Mission is to help create sustainable development programs in the most remote villages of Nepal, with the hope of improving the quality of life for the poorest and most vulnerable people of Nepal. Programs include:
• Formal and non-formal education for both children and adults;
• Mobile health and awareness clinics;
• Mental health awareness training;
• Income generation;
• Distribution of ceramic water;
• Disaster relief as needed.

Donations will be directed to the Rural Women’s Empowerment Project which will support the Dalit families in Eastern Nepal by providing non-formal education for the Dalit women; school scholarship for the women’s children including school supplies, clothes, and shoes; children’s club for after-school mentoring and socialization; income generation including organic gardening and goat distribution; gynecologic health camp with nutrition and safe drinking water education, mental health education; water filter and mosquito net distribution; and possibly more as need dictates. DMIEC, P.O. Box 30065, Des Moines, IA  50310

Checks can be written either to “CDO Nepal” or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.

We would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC. If you mail your check directly to the organization, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount, if you feel comfortable, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations.
