(Latinas Unidas Por Un Nuevo Amanecer) Iowa was created in 1999 by a group of survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse who noticed the lack of resources available to the LatinX community in Iowa. L.U.N.A. Iowa has evolved into a statewide organization with offices in Des Moines and Marshalltown. The L.U.N.A. mission is to empower\, educate\, and advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse so they may build futures free of violence. DESCRIPTION:FIRST SUNDAY COLLECTION FOR SEPTEMBER. \nDue to the Labor Day weekend\, the September First Sunday collection will be the week of September 13. \nCollection recipient:  YESS (Youth Emergency Services and Shelter of Iowa) \nCHECKS SHOULD BE MAILED TO: \nDMIEC\, P.O. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA 50310 \nYESS provides a safety net of programs for kids\, including emergency shelter\, crisis nursery care\, mental health counseling\, and care coordination.  As Iowa’s largest provider of emergency services for youth\, the agency connects more than 2\,000 children per year with healing and hope.  YESS is home to Iowa’s largest and most comprehensive shelter for kids\, which provides a safe haven and wraparound support to more than 800 children (newborn through age 17) per year.  In addition\, the agency cares for hundreds of children in the community to keep them safe and healthy in their own homes.  YESS is a nationally accredited nonprofit organization that uniquely serves the community’s most vulnerable children and creates an environment where families can thrive.  For more information\, please visit the YESS website: https://www.yessiowa.org/ \nChecks can be written either to (a) “YESS” or (b) “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line. With an emphasis on dignity and respect\, the Homeless Support Services Department provides housing services and meets basic needs for people who are\nvulnerable and experiencing homelessness. PHC serves as the Centralized Intake for Polk County and assists over 2\,000 households per year. The department also provides case\nmanagement to over 300 households. The funds donated to PHC will assist clients with obtaining permanent housing by providing financial assistance towards rent\, deposit or\nutilities.
