SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection - EMBARC
DESCRIPTION:All proceeds from our August 4  First Sunday collection will benefit Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (“EMBARC”). \nEMBARC is a grassroots\, community-based nonprofit founded in 2011 by refugees from Burma living in Iowa\, the first refugee-led service provider in the state. Over 10\,000 refugees from Burma have resettled to Iowa in recent years. EMBARC provides refugees the resources they need to successfully settle into their new home. EMBARC offers is a Direct-Service Walk-In Clinic\, where hundreds of refugees receive help with fundamental tasks essential for their survival. At the clinic\, leaders from refugee communities\, alongside volunteers who are long-time Iowa residents\, help with such tasks as paying rent\, applying for health insurance\, public benefits\, reading mail\, and accessing legal services that might not otherwise be available.
