SUMMARY:Annual Meeting - Community Assembly of Registered Members\, including information about the 2025 Council Election (In Person and via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:DMIEC’s Annual Meeting of the Community Assembly (i.e.\, registered DMIEC members) will be held on Sunday\, June 22\, 2025 immediately following our prayers service. The Council\, committees\, and teams will provide brief updates for the membership at the meeting.\nAll registered DMIEC members are eligible to run for the DMIEC Community Council and to vote in the Council election.  Electronic voting in the 2025 annual Council election will end at 5:00 Saturday\, June 21 (the day before the annual meeting).  Details about electronic voting will be separately provided to all duly-registered DMIEC members sufficiently in advance of the deadline. Members may cast written ballots at the June 22nd annual Community Assembly meeting\, if they’ve not already cast their ballots electronically.  If the number of candidates matches the number of open Council seats\, the election may take place via voice affirmation during the meeting.\n\n\nServing on the Council is a great way to gain a better understanding of all that DMIEC does and to share your talents for the benefit of our faith community. The By-Laws provide that a Council member must rotate off after two consecutive full terms. Any registered member of DMIEC is eligible to be a candidate for the Council. Any DMIEC registered member interested in running for the Council should contact Council Secretary Donna Dressel no later than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday\, June 1\, 2025.  Candidates will be announced to the membership at least two weeks in advance of the annual Community Assembly meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Collection recipient for FEBRUARY 2:  FAITH & GRACE GARDEN \nEstablished in 2001\, Faith & Grace Garden is a one-acre food pantry garden\, meaning all the fruits and vegetables grown in the garden are donated to feed hungry local people. The garden is located in the ‘backyards’ of both St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Des Moines and can be seen along Ashworth Road. In 2019\, Faith & Grace Garden donated over 12\,700 pounds of fresh organic fruits and vegetables to feed hungry people throughout Polk County. \nLast year\, a large greenhouse was built near the garden to grow food year round. DESCRIPTION:All proceeds from our August 4  First Sunday collection will benefit Ethnic Minorities of Burma Advocacy and Resource Center (“EMBARC”). \nEMBARC is a grassroots\, community-based nonprofit founded in 2011 by refugees from Burma living in Iowa\, the first refugee-led service provider in the state. Over 10\,000 refugees from Burma have resettled to Iowa in recent years. EMBARC provides refugees the resources they need to successfully settle into their new home. EMBARC offers is a Direct-Service Walk-In Clinic\, where hundreds of refugees receive help with fundamental tasks essential for their survival. At the clinic\, leaders from refugee communities\, alongside volunteers who are long-time Iowa residents\, help with such tasks as paying rent\, applying for health insurance\, public benefits\, reading mail\, and accessing legal services that might not otherwise be available. DESCRIPTION:Since the third Sunday of April falls on Easter\, we will have our DMARC collection on April 14. Envelopes will be available for donations to the Des Moines Area Religious Council Emergency Food Pantries. Write checks to “DMARC” or place cash in the envelopes and add to the collection basket. Or\, feel free to take an envelope home and mail donations directly to DMARC. \nImportant Note: You can double your impact during April thanks to the Douglas M. Woods Challenge Hunger Campaign. All donations to DMARC are matched dollar for dollar up to $20\,000.  Your $10 becomes $20\, $50 equals $100 and so on. Just $10 helps DMARC provide 40 meals this month.
