SUMMARY:DMARC Emergency Food Pantries Sunday Special Collection
DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real and has not subsided.  In 2023\, over 65\,000 individuals were assisted\, more than a third of whom were 17 years old or younger.  Nearly one in four City of Des Moines residents used a DMARC pantry.  The daily record for most visits on a day was broken 23 times last year\, the most recent record set on June 4th! \nFor more information\, please visit the DMARC Food Pantries website https://www.dmarcunited.org/food/\nRead DMARC’s most recent quarterly newsletter here. \nHere are two ways to donate: \n\nVia special envelopes available at DMIEC on in-person fourth Sundays. Please write checks to “DMARC\,” include a note with/on your check indicating that you are part of the DMIEC community\, put the check in the envelope\, and put the envelope in the collection basket.\nSend donation checks directly to DMARC. Please write checks to “DMARC” and mail to DMARC at its *new address\,* 100 Army Post Road\, Des Moines\, IA 50315. Please include a note with your check indicating that you are part of the DMIEC community.

SUMMARY:DMIEC Combined Community Conversation and Annual Members Meeting including Council Election (In Person and via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:There will be a notable Annual Meeting for Council election and community conversation about Zooming of in-person services on Sunday\, June 23\, 2024 immediately following our prayer service. Please take the time to read this notice carefully and thoroughly.\n\n(1) The annual DMIEC Council election and annual meeting will be held immediately\nfollowing the June 23 prayer service as part of our Annual Members Meeting.\nThis service will be in-person and on Zoom\, in an effort to include everyone.  Because this is an election of Council members\, it’s important to include as many community members as possible. All duly registered DMIEC members will be able to vote in person\, by email\, or other method; the details of which will be provided closer to the election date. If the number of candidates matches the number of open Council seats\, the election can take place via affirmation during the meeting.\n\nServing on the Council is a great way to gain a better understanding of all that DMIEC does and to share your talents for the benefit of our faith community. The By-laws provide that a Council member must rotate off after two consecutive full terms. Any registered member of DMIEC is eligible to be a candidate for the Council. Candidates will be announced to the community on June 9. \n(2) Community Conversation on Zoom of In-Person Services at DMIEC.\nWe will have an in-person and Zoom community conversation about continuing the in-person Zoom coverage following our prayer service on Sunday\, June 23rd.\nWe will also discuss the mix of Zoom and in-person services.  We then will seek the community’s guidance on proceeding to a vote.\nIn June\, we will have completed 6 months of in-person Zoom. We have averaged between 14 and 38 people joining us on Zoom during the in-person services. The council believes we have enough information to make a decision on continuing the in-person Zoom services. Because prayer leaders and liturgical plans need to be made months in advance\, the council believes June is the time to make a decision about continuing the in- person Zoom operation. We also believe this is a good time to take stock of our hybrid approach to services with two (or three\, when there are five Sundays in that month) in-person with Zoom\, and two entirely Zoom services each month.\n \nHere is what the Ad Hoc Committee on Technology proposed would be done when we did the trial:\nThe aim of the committee’s focus was to make our prayer services and gatherings least disruptive for those “in-person\, in our building” and\nmost enriching for those “away” from our building due to proximity or personal issues.\n \nOutlining the technical components:\n1) Propose two cameras in the worship area: close focus on prayer leader\, choir and on 1\, possibly 2\, microphones. There would be clear areas in the worship area for\nthose in-person to not be on camera\, by design and desire.\n2) Control center to allow for managing camera usage and allow input and mixing of audio feed.\n3) Security by using a new zoom invitation/code every week (as is current practice for the past 3 ½ years). \nThe ad hoc committee has completed the above items. They continue to provide a “no camera zone” in the back of the worship space. That space has not been shown during the trial. That practice would continue if we go forward. The cameras are extremely quiet and no one has mentioned hearing them during the service. The Zoom link continues to be sent directly to our email list\, and no one has “Zoom Bombed” our services. \nThe ad hoc committee and council have received numerous comments and suggestions about the in-person Zoom services. The majority have been overwhelmingly positive. A donated monitor was added recently in the worship space to provide the opportunity for community members to provide direct live video and audio feedback during community conversations. This was used successfully during the community conversation on the decision making framework and bylaws. Subsequently\, community members expressed a desire to use that monitor for DVD/Blu Ray viewing and streaming. A streaming Blu Ray player was added directly under the monitor for community use. \nAd Hoc Chair and Council Member David Wright continues to welcome questions and comments at his email David.Wright@drake.edu or his phone at 515-491-4539.\nThanks to all the hard work put in by the Ad Hoc members Donna Dressel\, Tony Schmidt\, Fred Eastman\, and Kevin Pokorny to make this effort come together. \nWe look forward to the community conversation.
