SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection – Des Moines Immigrant Connection
DESCRIPTION:July’s “First Sunday” collection will benefit Des Moines Immigrant Connection (DMIC).  DMIC works in coalition with Trinity Las Americas United Methodist Church and other churches to provide financial assistance for housing\, food\, clothing and other everyday needs of immigrants seeking asylum in the US. It is a lengthy process\, and asylum seekers don’t receive any government assistance while they wait to get work permits\, which can take months to obtain. DMIC helps them through this transition time. Thank so much for your support.   \n(Note:  DMIC is no longer under the auspices of 8th and College Connection.) \nCHECKS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE July 9 COLLECTION BASKET OR MAILED TO : DMIEC\, P.O. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA 50310 \nWrite checks either to “Trinity Las Americas UMC” with “Immigration” in the memo line\, or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.  First Sunday checks must be received by DMIEC by July 20th; if you elect to contribute to the First Sunday recipient after that date\, please let DMIEC’s Social Justice Committee Chair Kathy Eastman know the amount to assist in recording our community’s giving. SUMMARY:DMARC Emergency Food Pantries Sunday Special Collection
DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real.  In 2023\, over 65\,000 individuals were assisted\, more than a third of whom were 17 years old or younger.  Nearly one in four City of Des Moines residents used a DMARC pantry.  The daily record for most visits on a day was broken 23 times last year. \nAnd that need has not subsided.
