SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection - Dorothy's House
DESCRIPTION:All proceeds from our First Sunday collection on November 1st will benefit Dorothy’s House\, a safe place for the practice of life for those whose lives have been interrupted by human trafficking\, exploitation\, and prostitution. The First Sunday collection supports Dorothy’s House Pathways\, a crisis services shelter program launched in January 2025. The goal is to get women out of immediate danger within 24 hours of first contact with Dorothy’s House\, providing a place to sleep\, food\, clothing\, and personal care items. Demand for services has increased\, and Dorothy’s House has responded by expanding from a four-bed home to a ten-bed facility. \nEach woman who needs Dorothy’s House services arrives with few\, if any belongings.  With the help of DMIEC’s contribution\, a set of supplies pre-assembled by Dorothy’s House volunteers makes it easy for staff to easily select the clothing and personal care items she will need upon arrival. \nKellie Markey will join DMIEC’s November 1st Zoom service and stay afterwards for more in-depth conversation.            \nFor more information\, visit https://dorothyshouse.org. \nWrite checks either to “Dorothy’s House” with “DMIEC” in the memo line or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.   Checks should be mailed to: DMIEC\, P.O. Box 12022\, Des Moines\, IA 50312. \nTo be included in the amount DMIEC sends to the organization\, First Sunday checks must be received by DMIEC by November 20th; if you elect to contribute to the First Sunday recipient after that date\, please mail your check (made payable to Dorothy’s House with “DMIEC” in the memo line) directly to Dorothy’s House\, P.O. Box 57672\, Des Moines\, IA 50317 and\, if comfortable\, let DMIEC’s Social Justice Committee Chair Kathy Eastman know the amount to assist in recording our community’s giving.
