DESCRIPTION:Our First Sunday recipient in August is Gazelle Impact on Women & Youth in Kenya \nGazelle Impact focuses on empowering rural women and youth in economically challenged communities to achieve self-sufficiency and improve livelihoods through sustainable development projects. Work encompasses various initiatives\, including high school scholarships\, computer training\, organic farming programs\, and community center development. Gazelle Impact also provides opportunities for American college students to participate in service engagements in Kenya. \nDepending on greatest need\, DMIEC donations will target one of the following projects: \n\nBorehole Water Project Completion (estimated $4\,000): Purchase and install water holding tanks and pipe water to community center and caretaker cottage.\nOngoing programs at the community center including organic farming workshops\, women’s groups\, computer classes\, and health workshops.\n\nFor more information\, visit https://www.gazelleimpact.org. \nWrite checks either to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line or to “”Gazelle Impact on Women & Youth in Kenya.” Checks should be placed in the August 10th Collection Basket or mailed to DMIEC\, P.O. SUMMARY:DMARC Emergency Food Pantries Sunday Special Collection
DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real. \nEarlier this year\, DMARC recorded the four busiest months of its nearly 50-year history.  Nearly 29\,000 people used at least one of DMARC’s 14 pantries in January and over 79\,000 unique individuals have done so in fiscal year 2025.  Please see additional information on recent food pantries usage here. \nTo learn more\, please visit the DMARC Food Pantries website https://www.dmarcunited.org/food/  Read DMARC’s most recent quarterly newsletter here.
