SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection - Global Health Ministries
DESCRIPTION:Our First Sunday collection recipient for May is Global Health Ministries (GHM)\, an independent Lutheran nonprofit established in 1987 and which believes everyone should have access to a healthy life. Specializing in capacity-building for health systems in under-resourced countries\, GHM serves some of the most vulnerable people in the world. One hospital GHM helped is Phebe Hospital in Liberia\, where Joel and Kathy Olah worked for three years. \nEach year thousands of volunteers gather in the Minnesota-based warehouse to help sort and pack medical equipment and supplies to share around the world. At the request of international partners\, GHM also offers grants and volunteer consultants to help effect sustainable and enduring change. \nDonations received from DMIEC will help pay for shipping a container of medical goods to a country in need of that equipment.   \nFor more information about GHM\, visit www.ghm.org. \nWrite checks either to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line or to “GHM.” Checks should be placed in the May 10th Collection Basket or mailed to DMIEC\, P.O. DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real. \nDMARC recently recorded the four busiest months of its nearly 50-year history.  Nearly 29\,000 people used at least one of DMARC’s 14 pantries in January.  Please see additional information on recent food pantries usage here. \nTo learn more\, please visit the DMARC Food Pantries website https://www.dmarcunited.org/food/  Read DMARC’s most recent quarterly newsletter here. \nHere are two ways to donate: \n\nVia special envelopes available at DMIEC on in-person fourth Sundays.
