SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection - Women at the Well
DESCRIPTION:Established in 2006 as a church-inside-the-prison\, Women at the Well has provided faith-based support and worship for almost 20 years at Mitchellville. In-person presence halted during the pandemic\, but after the prison reopened to Women at the Well\, interest surged for reentry teams across the state —including in Des Moines\, where Mealtime at Fresh Start Women’s Center has had an impact on women rejoining life. Women at the Well also offers training for volunteers to provide jail ministry and facilitates advocacy towards criminal justice reform\, mental health policy\, ending sexual violence\, and other public issues that affect women in prison. Reentry Coordinator Lucinda Gillam will join us during our March 2 Zoom service to talk about the expansion of support for women at the work release in Waterloo. DMIEC’s donations will support the growing reentry program. \nFor more information on this organization\, visit http://www.womenatthewellumc.org. \nWrite checks either to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line or to “Women at the Well – IAC.”  \nCHECKS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE March 9th COLLECTION BASKET OR MAILED TO : DMIEC\, P.O. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA 50310 \nFirst Sunday checks must be received by DMIEC by March 20th; if you elect to contribute to the First Sunday recipient after that date\, please mail your check (made payable to the recipient with “DMIEC” in the memo line) directly to Women at the Well\, P.O. Box 33\, Mitchellville\, IA 50169\,  and\, if comfortable\, let DMIEC’s Social Justice Committee Chair Kathy Eastman know the amount to assist in recording our community’s giving.  If you have questions about how to donate or would like to donate using the ACH withdrawal feature\, please contact Susan Barnes (checks) or Jeanine Freeman (ACH) of the Finance Committee. (Info about ACH is available here.)\n\nThank you for your support!

SUMMARY:Sacred Ground: Documentaries and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:SACRED GROUND:  Documentaries and Discussion \nWednesdays\, March 12 & 26\, 6:30–8:30 p.m.\, DMIEC \nSacred Ground is a film- and readings-based dialogue series on race\, grounded in faith. It is a sensitive\, prayerful resource offered by the Episcopal Church that creates space for difficult but respectful dialogue – the kind dialogue we’ve engaged in at DMIEC. \nLast fall\, several members of DMIEC embarked on the 11-session Sacred Ground journey. Reaching the last session\, as the question of “what’s next?” emerged\, the group decided to share part of their journey with the DMIEC community. They will present Sacred Ground films on two Wednesday evenings during Lent. All are invited to come view these powerful documentary films followed by enriching dialogue. \nMARCH 12:  Stepping onto Sacred Ground.  We will view the documentary American Creed. \nMARCH 26:  Whose Land? Exploring Indigenous History.  We will view the documentaries Doctrine of Discovery and Native Voices: Speaking to the Church and the World.  \n
