SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection – TON of Hope Children's Book Project
DESCRIPTION:Our First Sunday collection recipient for November is TON of Hope Children’s Book Project. \nTON of Hope Children’s Book Project is a project of Tent of Nations (TON)\, the Nassar family’s ecological farm and international peace center near Bethlehem\, Palestine. Supported by individuals and organizations in the U.S.\, the project grew out of TON’s children’s summer camp to produce the book\, From the Ground and Up. Through words\, photos\, and imaginative participation\, this interactive children’s book depicts how traumatized children discover their deep roots in the land\, the potential in their seeds\, how to create lives of strength and resiliency\, and how to work together to make a better world.  By inviting readers to share the campers’ experience\, it empowers campers and readers alike. \nTON’s mission is one of empowerment\, peace\, and justice. They act on their mission by refusing to be victims or enemies and practicing non-violent resistance. While the book was created primarily for readers of middle school age\, it conveys TON’s message to readers of all ages. \nFor more information on this organization\, visit https://tentofnations.com/programs-projects/. \nWrite checks either to “Trinity Las Americas” or “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.   \nCHECKS SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE November 10th COLLECTION BASKET OR MAILED TO : DMIEC\, P.O. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA 50310 \nFirst Sunday checks must be received by DMIEC by November 20th; if you elect to contribute to the First Sunday recipient after that date\, please mail your check (made payable to the recipient with “DMIEC” in the memo line) directly to Trinity Las Americas (P.O. Box 41005\, Des Moines\, IA 50311)\, and\, if comfortable\, let DMIEC’s Social Justice Committee Chair Kathy Eastman know the amount to assist in recording our community’s giving.  If you have questions about how to donate or would like to donate using the ACH withdrawal feature\, please contact Susan Barnes (checks) or Jeanine Freeman (ACH) of the Finance Committee. (Info about ACH is available here.)\nThank you for your support!
