SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection – The FreeStore
DESCRIPTION:June’s “First Sunday” collection proceeds will benefit The FreeStore.  The FreeStore provides gently used furniture and other household items at no cost to central Iowa children and families\, who are recovering from domestic violence or other trauma.  It is operated completely by volunteers. Donations will assist in buying needed items not often donated\, such as toasters\, crockpots\, vacuum cleaners\, microwaves\, laundry baskets\, linens\, and similar items.  Also\, donations will be used to purchase small dressers to be assembled for children. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA 50310 \nWrite checks either to “FreeStore” with “DMIEC” in the memo line\, or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line. First Sunday checks must be received by DMIEC by June 20th; if you elect to contribute to the First Sunday recipient after that date\, please mail your check (made payable to “FreeStore” with “DMIEC” in the memo line) directly to FreeStore at 1020 24th St\, West Des Moines IA 50266-2107 and\, if comfortable\, let DMIEC’s Social Justice Committee Chair Kathy Eastman know the amount to assist in recording our community’s giving. SUMMARY:DMARC Emergency Food Pantries Sunday Special Collection
DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real and has not subsided.  In 2023\, over 65\,000 individuals were assisted\, more than a third of whom were 17 years old or younger.  Nearly one in four City of Des Moines residents used a DMARC pantry.  The daily record for most visits on a day was broken 23 times last year\, the most recent record set on June 4th! \nFor more information\, please visit the DMARC Food Pantries website https://www.dmarcunited.org/food/\nRead DMARC’s most recent quarterly newsletter here. \nHere are two ways to donate: \n\nVia special envelopes available at DMIEC on in-person fourth Sundays. Please write checks to “DMARC\,” include a note with/on your check indicating that you are part of the DMIEC community\, put the check in the envelope\, and put the envelope in the collection basket.\nSend donation checks directly to DMARC.
