SUMMARY:First Sunday Collection - Project IOWA
DESCRIPTION:Project IOWA provides transformational programs for individuals looking to grow personally and professionally. A holistic training approach connects individuals to their purpose and meaningful\, stable employment.  Project IOWA’s current standard is to place individuals in careers that pay a livable wage\, with an average post-training wage of $17.56. \nFunds from our First Sunday collection will go toward the Cultivating Careers Program\, which provides tools to overcome barriers such as generational poverty\, financial constraints\, lack of resources\, criminal backgrounds\, mental health\, trauma\, and a lack of skills and confidence. It offers an opportunity to gain adequate training for employment\, develop increased self-awareness\, a clear understanding of workplace culture\, and increased financial stability. \nFor more information on this organization\, visit https://www.projectiowa.org/ \nCHECKS SHOULD BE MAILED TO: \nDMIEC\, P.O. Box 30065\, Des Moines\, IA  50310 \nChecks can be written either to “Project IOWA” or to “DMIEC” with “First Sunday” in the memo line.  \nWe would prefer that all checks be mailed to DMIEC. If you mail your check directly to the organization\, please inform Ed Arnold of the amount\, if you feel comfortable\, so the Social Justice Committee can get an accurate count of donations.

SUMMARY:DMARC Emergency Food Pantries Sunday Special Collection
DESCRIPTION:Our DMIEC community works to address food insecurity issues in the Des Moines metro area via a special collection for the DMARC Emergency Food Pantries on the fourth Sunday of every month. \nThe need is real. The fiscal year just ended was the busiest in DMARC emergency food pantries’ nearly 50-year history  The 22\,000 people assisted in June 2023 was the second highest number on record. 1 in 6 City of Des Moines residents used a food pantry in 2022. \nAnd that need has not subsided. The combination of inflated food prices\, an end to COVID benefits\, and lingering pandemic hardships is driving more people to seek assistance at the pantry.  For recent info about local food needs and services\, please click here and here. \nFor more information\, please visit the DMARC Food Pantries website https://www.dmarcunited.org/food/\nRead DMARC’s most recent quarterly newsletter here. \nTwo ways to donate: \nVia special envelopes available at DMIEC on in-person fourth Sundays. Please write checks to “DMARC\,” include a note with/on your check indicating that you are part of the DMIEC community\, put the check in the envelope\, and put the envelope in the collection basket. \nSend donation checks directly to DMARC. Please write checks to “DMARC” and mail to DMARC at its *new address*\, 100 Army Post Road\, Des Moines\, IA 50315. Please include a note with your check indicating that you are part of the DMIEC community.
